Old Actonians “Old A’s” is a leading London Rugby club with a real international appeal and representation from many of the major rugby playing nations.
Our 1st team play in Div 1Herts/ Middlesex. Our 2nd ‘s are consistently strong (Middlesex Meritt Table) and we also have an Occasionals and Vets team.
Old A’s are coached by Florent Rossingneux Wasps and Racing Club flanker with major coaching experience.
Old A’s has produced county, national and premiership players over the years all of whom still have close links with the club. If you want to develop your game then Old A’s is a great environment to play within.
FACILITIES Old A’s has some of the best facilities in London with a superb clubhouse, pitches, changing rooms, bar and bar-patio. In addition club members have access to the weights room, gym and other all-weather sports pitches.
Old A’s has full time ground staff and the club house is open all day, every day. ETHOS Old A’s welcomes all nationalities who have the desire to play rugby competitively. We have a professional coaching and facilities team, though we do not pay players as we have built our foundations as an amateur club that produces good players at all levels.
Old Actonians RFC is located just off Gunnersbury Drive in the heart of W5. In a vibrant part of West London, the facilities on offer are some of the best around. Acton Town Tube (Piccadilly) and Ealing Common (District) are both a short walk away. The ethos of the club is very much focused on rugby (1st XV Herts/Mdsx 1) with a big emphasis on the social side of the sport with friends, family and members past and present all encouraged to get involved in club life. We have an excellent, newly secured coach, who runs 2 sessions a week on the main pitch plus we have games most Saturdays for 2 senior men’s sides plus an Occasionals side.
A good day for OA's with both teams winning to see them both end the day top of their respective leagues.
The 2's maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign by winning a hard fought game away at HAC 21-13. All points coming courtesy of Jamie Lockey's (aka Andy Goode) right boot. A great effort from the boys, next week sees them take on Feltham at home.
The 1's beat league leaders Kilburn Cosmos and produced a fine controlled performance to see them leapfrog the Cosmos at the top of the table. The early exchanges were tight but OA's were unable to convert territory into points and Kilburn with their physically larger pack took a 6-0 lead. Ben Jane though with another fine kicking performance got the scoreboard ticking over. 2 tries from great mauling by the forwards and then a piece of individual brilliance from Scotty out on the wing saw OA's pull away in what in the end was a comfortable victory. This was a more disciplined performance than recent weeks and a great team effort. The only downside was not securing a bonus point. Man of the match went to Marcus Calnan. Next up is another top of the table clash away at Barnet Elizabethans.
